Wow – what an experience DofE was last week!
We travelled to The Peak District early last Sunday morning to undertake our Gold DofE in the Dark Peaks in Derbyshire. Six of us were doing our practice expedition, whilst two year 13 students were doing their Gold assessed expedition.
The forecast was to be hot and sunny, so we came as prepared as we could be for the four days ahead of us. We walked and climbed through some absolutely stunning scenery, navigating our way through some at times quite challenging terrain and steep mountains to climb down with our 15kg backpacks on!
We worked together as a team, supporting each other through the highs and the lows. The heat made it quite hard at times as we had to make sure we had enough water to last us until we reached our check points to get more. We had some interesting encounters at the camp sites – particularly Hagg Farm where we were almost eaten alive by midges!! And Day 2 started with Hayden getting bird poo all over his head 😱🙈 – all good fun!
We showed much resilience as a team throughout the 4 days and are so proud of ourselves and particularly of Hannah and Amy who have now both completed their assessed expedition- we have ours to look forward to in October.
We’d like to particularly thank Mr Barrett, Mrs Gladwin and Graham our assessor for giving us such fantastic opportunities to do things like this, as without these staff we would never be able to complete our Duke of Edinburgh awards. We are all very appreciative of the time they give up to take us away – so thank you!
